Before his rise as a globally known entrepreneur, H.E. Justin Sun grew up in Xining, China. From an early age, he stuck to computers like a magnet, spending hours coding and developing his skills. He graduated from Peking University in 2011 with a B.A. in history before getting a Masters in East Asian Studies. Though he majored in the humanities, he kept his knowledge of computers close and launched his first app Peiwo in 2013. Given that it now hosts over 10mn users, it’s safe to say Peiwo kickstarted Sun’s entrepreneurship. Moreover, it propelled him to be Jack Ma’s youngest student at Hupan University, a Forbes 30 under 30 member, the Chief Representative Advisor of Ripple Labs, and Davos Youth Global Shaper. After leaving his role at Ripple in 2016, he went on to found what he’s most well-known for: the TRON blockchain. Before he retired as CEO of TRON in 2021, he had grown his protocol to having over 85mn users and billions of transactions.
H.E. Justin Sun is just as prominent for his involvement in developing and promoting blockchain technology. His most famous example of this was his $4.57mn donation to dine with the regaled Warren Buffett. He went into the meal to offer Buffett, a crypto-skeptic, a glimpse into the crypto industry’s progress and the potential of a decentralized web. He knew he couldn’t change his opinions in one meal and looked for mutual growth and understanding. It seems like Sun got it in what he called an “amazing dinner” with the renowned investor. Additionally, he’s partnered with and led the acquisition of many technology developers, including the BitTorrent Chain, Animoca Brands, Samsung, and more. Now, he serves as Rainberry, Inc.’s CEO and the Grenadian Representative to the World Trade Organization.
